The vocal and instrumental ensemble Accademia del Spirito Santo was founded in 1998 by Francesco Pinamonti and is dedicated to the repertoire of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The name of the ensemble goes back to the famous music academy that was founded in Ferrara in 1598 and whose conductors included composers such as Girolamo Frescobaldi, Alessandro Grand and Giovanni Legrenzi.

The ensemble has recorded for Japanese television NHK BS and for ORF1. A recording of Ferdinando Bertoni’s L’Orfeo was released in 2016 and a recording of Vivaldi’s Juditha Triumphans in 2021, both on the Fra Bernardo label. In 2020, the ensemble recorded excerpts from Handel’s La Resurrezione for RAI5 for the documentary film Sinfonie di Rinascita.

Since 2013, the ensemble has performed regularly at the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, including in productions of L’Orfeo, Alcina, Alceste, Esther and Acis and Galathea.

In 2022, the ensemble performed contemporary compositions with the Banda musicale dell’Esercito for the Ferrara Musica cultural centre in Rome and Ferrara.
